What is Serial to Ethernet, Serial to IP, or Serial to Internet?
All three terms are used interchangeably to mean much of the same thing. In essence, serial to ethernet, serial to IP, or serial to internet is about converting serial asynchronous data from an RS232, RS422, or RS485 port to TCP/IP or UDP packets, giving you authentic serial communications across ethernet as if you are locally connected to the serial port with a direct cable connection. This is perfect in M2M communication, where client access must be independent of any operating system or proprietary protocol.
