As we are coming to the end of the year, many small business owners are going to start an annual ritual….it is a game called, “Find the receipts you need, that are among the thousands of pieces of paper that you do not need”. If you are like me, you won’t have any problem finding a random brochure from a trade show in 2010, but it might not be so easy to find a key receipt from a restaurant for your accountant. So, what if you had millions of pieces of paper to go through….and what if you were adding thousands of more pieces of paper per second to the pile?
This is kind of like what we are seeing now for many companies with Big Data. The amount of data you can get from a single piece of equipment is staggering. Think about an Air Conditioning unit as an example….If you were to receive information on its operating times, the temperature of key components and even the amount of energy it is using 30-60 times per hour, the amount of data that it could generate is quite significant. Now, what if you did it 5x per minute and/or you had 100,000 units to monitor?
